Radio Legend and Community Leader Merle Blair passes away

Merle  It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Merle Blair. In 1964 he began to host the Merle Blair Sunday Show on this station, 8 am to 12 noon, a program he continued to do for over 50 years. During his career he served as executive Vice President and General Manager of KTOP radio in Topeka, and was the first program director for KDVV-FM in Topeka, now known as V100.

Merle Blair also served as the radio voice of the Washburn Icabods from 1967-1981. He also played basketball at the school from 1955-1957 and is a member of the Washburn Athletics Hall of Fame.

In addition to his work in broadcasting, Merle Blair also served as President and CEO of the Greater Topeka Chamber of Commerce. He retired from the Chamber in 2001.
The Topeka Airwaves will never be the same with the loss of Merle.  For us here at KMAJ-AM, we will continue to air The Best of the Merle Blair Sunday Show for the remainder of the year.
