Multiple people, including a police officer, were taken to the hospital following a crash Tuesday afternoon in downtown Topeka.
The Topeka Police Department was involving in a chase with another driver around 3 p.m. A TPD canine officer was on their way to help and was driving south on Topeka Blvd. with their emergency lights on when they were involved in a crash with another vehicle that was heading west on 12th Street.
The officer, identified as Christopher J. Janes, 23, of Topeka and the two people in the other vehicle were taken to Stormont Vail with injuries.
The driver of the other vehicle was identified as Linda K. Temple, 68, of Topeka. Linda’s 16-year-old grandson, Avery Temple-Bowie, was a passenger.
Avery tells KSNT News his grandmother is currently in the ICU with a couple fractured ribs and a minor cut on the neck as well as stitches in her leg.
Avery said he has a minor bruise on his shoulder and did have a bloody nose right after the wreck.
Police said the canine in the officer’s vehicle was not injured but was being checked out as a precaution.
The Kansas Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
Everyone involved was wearing seat belts, according to KHP.
