TOPEKA (KSNT) – The Topeka Fire Department (TFD) will be hosting a Citizens Academy in the Fall of 2025.
City of Topeka spokesman Dan Garrett said the academy will teach people about fire safety and emergency services. The academy opens Thursday, Aug. 7, and will run through Thursday, Sept. 11. Sessions will run from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. each Thursday.
Firefighters with the TFD will host educational sessions every Thursday evening while the academy is ongoing, offering presentations from a variety of the department’s different teams. Attendees will learn about different tools used by firefighters and witness some of the training TFD personnel receive.

Garrett said any citizen over the age of 18 is encouraged to apply. Classes are limited to 20 participants with registration ending on July 1. Applications can be submitted through this website.
