TOPEKA (KSNT) – A local library is teaching kids how to keep the oceans clean.
The City of Topeka’s Water Department visited the Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library on Monday, June 23 to talk about ways to help keep the oceans clean. Participating children got to take part in an activity that simulates how a landfill works.
“They can change the environment by keeping our oceans clean, knowing what to throw away, knowing what to recycle, and that starts at a young age to learn that,” said Jacee Gleason with the Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library.
Staff with the Water Department also talked about keeping hazardous chemicals out of the landfill. You can learn more about fun events happening at the library by heading to its website.
