TOPEKA (KSNT) – One local kid is taking on a summer challenge: the 50-yard challenge. Who is this kid making big strides in the community? Let us introduce you to Casen Ramos.
Casen is 11 years old and attends Washburn Rural North Middle School. This summer, he finally got the opportunity to do something he had been waiting for: mow lawns.
Last summer, Casen told his dad he wanted to start mowing lawns like him. So, his father, Cade, founded “Raising Men and Women Lawn Care Services.” The group mows lawns for free for the elderly, disabled, single parents, or veterans.
Casen already has a list of customers for his services. 27 News joined him at one local family’s home, who needed the chore taken off their plate.

“I always wanted to do it last summer, and then he saw something on Facebook and like signed me up for it, and it’s like a 50-yard challenge and like you could mow all these yards for free and just giving back to the community and stuff,” Ramos said. “And then after that you get all this cool equipment and you get a leaf blower, you’re own lawn mower, and a weed wacker. “
“My partner passed away unexpectedly on the 12th of this month, and everything was just dumped into my lap,” Taylor Andrews, home homeowner who received Casen’s service, said. “I’m just overwhelmed, and for somebody like him and his dad to come and help somebody like me, I wouldn’t expect much of anything. I sincerely appreciate everything that they’re doing.”
Andrews has a GoFundMe started to help him in this rapid change.
Casen has already mowed 5 yards in his 50-yard challenge. You can see he was wearing a white shirt.
That’s because this challenge works just like karate belts; for every 10 yards he mows, he gets a new colored tee.
After he finishes mowing all 50 yards, he will receive a whole set of brand-new lawn care equipment.
