MANHATTAN (KSNT) – From the opening credits to the heartwarming storyline, HBO’s “Somebody Somewhere” brings Manhattan, Kansas, to life.
And now the show is doing more than just telling a story, it’s bringing visitors to town.
“When they come, they’re buying, you know, beer, Manhattan Brewing Company. They’re buying breakfast at The Chef,” Director of Visit Manhattan Marcia Rozell said. “And so, it has an economic effect on the community. And that’s what it’s all about.”

Ever since Manhattan native and show creator Bridget Everett featured real-life businesses, like Varsity Donuts, they say they’ve noticed an increase in new customers.
“It’s a true-to-life, accurate impression of the little apple here,” Varsity Donuts Employee Naaman Welch said. “Bridget Everett being a local herself, I mean, she knows the area and she knows the spots and the people and just kind of all of that Midwest culture.”
The show wrapped up last year with its third and final season.
It’s become a hit, praised by people in Manhattan for its honest storytelling and authentic Kansas backdrop.
“You can go to some of those locations that she’s featured in and find people all the time that have come because of her show,” Rozell said. “She’s had three series with her show and they’ve come because it’s been so meaningful to them in their life.”
