TOPEKA (KSNT) – Kansas transportation authorities are set to replace a bridge that crosses over I-70 in Topeka starting in early 2026.
The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) will begin work on the replacement project in the spring of 2026 with an expected end date coming in the fall that year. Drivers will be unable to use the California Avenue bridge that crosses above I-70 for the duration of the project.
Kate Craft with KDOT said an open house will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 14 at the Lakewood Shelter House at 2301 Southeast Lakewood Boulevard in Topeka to inform locals about the project. People are invited to stop by and meet with members of the project team in an informal setting.
KDOT reports the project will have a cost of about $6.7 million. You can learn more about the California Avenue bridge replacement project by heading to KDOT’s website.
