TOPEKA (KSNT) – A major road construction project will start soon on Southwest Fairlawn Road.
The City of Topeka said in a press release that construction project will begin on Monday, Aug. 18 on Southwest Fairlawn Road from Southwest 28th Street to Southwest 22nd Place. Crews will be working on street, waterline, stormwater and sanitary sewer improvements.
Crews will also be working to widen the street to include left turn lanes at 25th Street and at 22nd Place into the Dillons parking lot.
“The City encourages drivers to use caution in construction zones and follow all posted signs for their safety and the safety of construction crews.”

Access will be provided to all driveways on Fairlawn and school crossings will be posted. A full closure is necessary from 25th Terrace through to 22nd Place on Fairlawn Road.

The City of Topeka reports that as crews work on the project, Fairlawn Road will be closed, with a detour taking drivers to Gage Boulevard. The work is expected to continue until October 2026.
