TOPEKA (KSNT) – West Ridge Mall is losing two more stores this year after a major retail company filed for bankruptcy.
27 News talked with West Ridge Mall Manager Casey Richardson on Friday, Aug. 8 about the loss of two more stores inside the shopping center. She said that Claire’s and Icing are both set to shut down later this year in October.
“While we’re saddened to see Claire’s and Icing close as part of their North American shutdown, we’re grateful for the years they’ve been part of our mall family,” Richardson said. “Both stores have begun liquidating inventory and will close by October 31, and we encourage shoppers to take advantage of those sales while they last.”
Claire’s Holdings LLC filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection earlier this week, according to a report from The Associated Press (AP). Both Claire’s and Icing, known for offering fashion options to teens, fall under the company and have numerous locations in malls across the nation.
Spirit Halloween opening in West Ridge Mall soon, what to know
JCPenney recently exited the mall on May 25, 2025 while Kirkland’s Home announced it will be shutting its doors for the last time this fall. Advisors Excel, the new owners of the mall, are working to revitalize the shopping center in various ways such as repurposing the old JCPenney space, adding in new retail and grocery stores and updating its general design.
Richardson said the mall is focused on the future and is working to bring in new shopping options for local Topekans. She encourages people to stop by the mall to help support the businesses that call the place home.
“The retail landscape is changing, but West Ridge Mall is embracing the future,” Richardson said. “We’re working every day to bring in exciting new stores, restaurants, and entertainment, and we encourage Topekans to continue supporting the incredible mix of national and locally owned businesses we have here. Your support keeps our community strong and thriving.”
