TOPEKA (KSNT) – Downtown Topeka just got a little brighter with the addition of a new vibrant mural.
Blue Cross and Blue Shield unveiled a new mural on Monday, Aug. 18 that reflects the company’s commitment to building healthy communities and ensuring people across the state have access to quality health insurance in every stage of life. This project began as just a topic of thought, just about two years ago, and in May of 2024, work began on brainstorming what this idea of “Community-Minded, Kansas-Rooted” would look like.
Working for you, 27 News spoke to the artist, Zandra Sneed-Dawkins, about the concept.
“So, I went through this storyboard. It’s a birth, the life story for me,” Sneed-Dawkins said. “Because insurance is generally with you from birth to life, to the end of life, in stages of life. So I wanted to represent that in the story. Wanted to keep the mural not realistically specific in the characters that are playing there, so that everybody who walks there can look at that mural and see something in themself, or maybe a grandma or a kid playing, their kids playing. So I want them to stop and take a moment and see the wonder in the mural.”

When will the new Panda Express open in north Topeka?
Blue Cross and Blue Shield encourages community members to stop by the mural and take a selfie, and post it to social media. You can find the mural at Southwest 11th Street and Southwest Tyler Street.
