JUNCTION CITY (KSNT) – Police in Junction City recently dished out a large ticket after catching a local driver going almost triple the posted speed.
The Junction City Police Department (JCPD) said in a social media statement on Monday, Aug. 22 that it issued a ticket to a driver for violating the posted speed limit. The driver was allegedly caught traveling at 93 mph in a 35 mph zone, resulting in a $650 ticket for the violation.
Speed limit increased on rural Kansas highway
Cadin Sanner, a spokesman for the JCPD, told 27 News police issued the ticket at 1:20 a.m. on July 27 in the 700 block of Grant Avenue. The driver was inside a Dodge Charger.
The JCPD said speeding can lead to crashes and traffic fatalities. Drivers who are traveling at increased speeds will have less time to react to changing road conditions and lead to more damaging crashes that could result in death.
“The risk doesn’t just rise, it escalates dramatically. Take this as a reminder to slow down and drive safely. Every mile per hour matters.”
