EMPORIA (KSNT) – The David Traylor Zoo announced on Tuesday that it is welcoming Axl, a mini-highland cow, to it’s growing family of residents.
Axl comes from the Rolling Hills Zoo in Salina, and he will celebrate his first birthday on Sept. 22. The David Traylor Zoo said he will be quarantined along Zoo Road next to the emus for 30 days. After the quarantine, he will switch enclosures with the emus to give him a larger grazing area.

Keepers getting to know him have described Axl as curious and attentive. The David Traylor Zoo said he won’t be alone for long, as he will soon have a companion. For now, he will be kept company by other resident animals such as some bison.
