JUNCTION CITY (KSNT) – Teachers at Junction City High School say student engagement has been ‘just incredible’ after implementing a new cellphone policy.
The policy, which began last semester, now requires students to store their phones away during instructional time. Administrators say the aim is to maximize student interaction.
“Teachers have said the engagement is just incredible,” Principal of Junction City High School Gennifer Booth said. “Kids are communicating with each other. They’re actively having these great conversations during our advisory times.”

“We believe that if young people can learn all of the behaviors that are productive and that are necessary when you’re in a group environment or just following rules, that ultimately they’re going to be in a better shape or a better place when they graduate and go out into the workforce, go to college,” Geary County Schools Superintendent Reginald Eggleston said.
Junction City High School’s cellphone policy is part of a broader trend, with Geary County joining other districts nationwide.
