TOPEKA (KSNT) – The debate between Topeka’s two mayoral candidates, Spencer Duncan and Henry McClure, was held Thursday evening.
McClure and Duncan answered questions from the public tonight over topics ranging from city infrastructure and taxes, to homelessness and city population. People also had the chance to submit their own questions to each candidate with the goal of public transparency.
“Public safety, improving the way we do infrastructure and transparency, and making sure that people have more of a voice in the processes in government.” said Duncan.

“It’s about streets, fresh water and public safety with the fire and police department,” said McClure. “Those are the three main things. We’ve got to stop giving money to economic development. That is not economic development.”
Duncan received around 4,574 votes in the primary election held on Aug. 5, while McClure received around 1,084. The election will take place on Nov. 4.
