CONCORDIA (KSNT) – Police say two juveniles are being treated for extreme burn injuries this week after a fuel source exploded while they were pouring it onto a bonfire.
Chief Brent Gering with the Concordia Police Department (CPD) announced in a press release that officers heard a loud noise and screaming around 9:50 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 6. Police responded to the disturbance while 911 dispatchers received calls from the 400 block of West Fifth Street regarding reports of two juveniles suffering from severe burn wounds.

A CPD officer arrived at the scene and found two juveniles with severe burn injuries. Concordia Fire Department personnel also responded to the scene to help the juveniles.
The CPD said that both individuals were severely burned and taken to a nearby medical center in critical condition. The pair were later transported to a burn unit at a level one trauma hospital. Law enforcement said both juveniles are still in critical condition as of Monday, Sept. 8.
Police determined the juveniles were pouring “accelerant” on to a bonfire moments before they were injured. Fire traveled along the fuel stream to the source, causing an explosion that injured the pair.
“No names will be released at this time due to the ages of the victims. No further information will be released at this time.”
