TOPEKA (KSNT) – Major improvements may be coming to the Shawnee Heights school district after education officials decided to give the go-ahead for a $65,000,000 bond vote.
The Kansas Department of Education (KSDE) board approved of allowing a bond vote to move forward for residents living in USD 450 during its meetings on Sept. 9-10. Shawnee Heights residents will now have the option to vote in favor of or against the bond issue during the General Election on Nov. 4.

If voters approve of the bond, it will cause an increase in taxes for local residents. People will see around a $1.44 per month, or $17.25 per year, increase on taxes if they own a $100,000 home for a 25-year timespan, according to USD 450.
USD 450 Superintendent Sheila Meggers told 27 News earlier this month the district will use the $65,000,000 bond resolution to make numerous improvements to several of its schools. She said the cash will be used to create additional classroom space, support growing school programs and improve safety and accessibility for all students.
