WABAUNSEE COUNTY (KSNT) – Local sheriff’s deputies handed out a big ticket to a speeding driver in Wabaunsee County this week.
Sergeant Jonathan Sumner with the Wabaunsee County Sheriff’s Office said deputies pulled a driver over around 3:15 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 22 near mile-marker 330 on I-70 just north of McFarland. Law enforcement spotted the driver traveling south at 110 mph on nearby K-99 Highway before making the traffic stop.
K-99 has a posted speed limit of 65 mph, meaning the driver was moving at 45 mph above the legal speed. Deputies pulled the driver over, who was in a “modified” Dodge challenger, and issued a ticket for the traffic violation.
Sumner said the combination of the citation and court costs made the ticket almost $500. Drivers in Kansas who are speeding, but not committing any other crimes, are subject to an increasing amount of fines based on the state’s uniform fine schedule.
