KANSAS (KSNT) – Topekans got an inside look at a local fire station today.
Fire station one in North Topeka held an open house today, inviting people to meet firefighters, get hands-on with a fire truck, try on firefighter gear and tour the facility.

“I think it’s great, a lot of people don’t get a chance to come out here and really experience the station itself,” Apparatus Operator Mitchell Ridder said. “Some people see fire trucks and kids will get to go to different events in the public but them coming to us is kind of a different scenario so.”
Fire station #1 is one of three firehouses the Topeka Fire Department wants to relocate. The department says firefighters could cover more homes with shorter response times during an emergency.
