TOPEKA (KSNT) – Locals don’t have to wait much longer for a new Hispanic grocery store to open in southeast Topeka.
Grocery store company SpartanNash revealed its plans to open a new grocery store in Topeka at the California Crossing Shopping Center near Southeast 29th Street and Southeast California Avenue back in August. The new store will occupy almost 50,000 square feet of space and offer customers all sorts of staples to create their own Mexican dishes at home.

We reached back out to SpartanNash this week to get the latest update on when people can expect to start shopping at the new Supermercado Nuestra Familia store. District Manager Silvi Nicholas said the grand opening is currently set for early December this year.
“We are planning our grand opening celebration for Dec. 6, which will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony, giveaways and entertainment for the whole family,” Nicholas said. “The entire community is invited to celebrate with us!”
Shoppers can visit the store from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily once it officially opens. More information on special deals for the first customers on the opening day is expected to be released in the days leading up to Dec. 6.
Nicholas said the store will employ 100 people in a variety of full and part-time positions. People interested in working at the new store can check out job opportunities using this link.
The opening of this new grocery store will mark the fifth under the company’s Supermercado Nuestra Familia retail banner in the Sunflower State. You can learn more about SpartanNash by heading to its website.
