LAWRENCE (KSNT) – The Lawrence Police Department (LKPD) shared that its beloved K9, Cheeseburger, had passed away.
On Wednesday, Oct. 8, the LKPD shared that Cheeseburger had died in the morning, surrounded by his family.
“Our family is forever grateful that the department and community of Lawrence trusted us to care for Cheeseburger in his retirement,” the LKPD wrote on social media.
The LKPD said that Cheeseburger spent the last 2.5 years of his life to the fullest with toys, treats, car rides and love.

“He fit into our family seamlessly and we will miss him terribly,” the LKPD wrote. “His goofy smile and silly attitude are forever imprinted on hearts. There is a Cheeseburger sized hole in our hearts, but we feel truly blessed to have had the opportunity to love him.”
Cheeseburger retired from the LKPD after serving for 8 years. His retirement party was held on June 8, 2023. He spent his retirement years with Sgt. Ron Ivener, his wife, their four children and their dog Monty.
