TOPEKA (KSNT) – Sourdough bread continues to rise in popularity following the COVID-19 pandemic, but so are the prices.
H & A Sourdough Bakery in Topeka began its sourdough journey three years ago. The business uses local ingredients to produce its loaves, keeping them largely unaffected from challenges like tariffs impacting business.
But prices are rising for some of the ingredients the bakery uses.

“At least a dollar or so, with our flour that has raised,” said Kayla Morrow, co-owner of H&A Bakery. “The honey has also raised, the one that we sometimes use in our honey wheat loaves. But besides that, we haven’t really noticed very much. Besides just those two.”
The bakery also says it hasn’t had to change following calls from Health Secretary RFK Jr. to phase out certain dyes, since it stays away from using preservatives.
