TOPEKA (KSNT) – John Roberts with the Topeka Rescue Mission (TRM) joined the 27 News Morning Show Friday to talk about holiday donations.
“We’re in full gear for the winter months and the holidays that are coming up,” Roberts said. “Doing coat drives this week and holiday food drives and then also trying to start planning our gifts for all of the things we do.”
Due to the cold temperatures on the way, TRM is also looking for winter jackets.
“Really the sizes like 3x-5x even are just harder to get our hands on,” Roberts said. “And so we would really appreciate any donations of coats in those larger sizes so that we can make sure that everybody has a coat to wear this this season as it gets colder.”

We asked Roberts why these donations are important.
“We just really want to make the holiday special for a time,” Roberts said. “You know, there’s just so much pressure on all of the people that we’re serving already that especially around the holidays, that pressure just ramps up. And we just really want to make sure not only are we able to allow the families, both in our community and who are at our shelter and the individuals at our shelter, not only can we meet their needs, but we also just want to make sure that they have a nice holiday season and that they’re getting the things that they need really to enjoy and have a special time.”
TRM has created a needs list that includes an Amazon wish list, you can find that here. To hear more about TRM holiday donations and what Roberts had to say, you can watch the interview above.
