EMPORIA (KSNT)- Emporia State celebrated its homecoming game by debuting its new and improved mascot.
‘Corky the Hornet’ was re-introduced during today’s game against #14 Northwest Missouri. Corky has been Emporia State’s mascot since 1933.
The mascot was created by an ESU student, Paul Edwards.
Emporia State Athletic Director Steve Rodecap told 27 News the reason why they went with an upgrade.
“Corky since the first two years that I’ve been here, you know, we just felt like you kind of need to be revamped, make him a little bolder, make him a little faster, make him a little stronger,” Rodecap said. ”It’s kind of what we believe in here at Emporia State, and that was kind of the reason behind it.”
