TOPEKA (KSNT) – The Lady Hornets are set to host round two of the Turnpike Tussle.
Just 12 days ago, the Hornets took on the Ichabods inside Lee Arena. This time, Washburn will face Emporia State inside White Auditorium.
In the last meeting between these two teams, Washburn came away with the 86-59 win.
The Ichabods shot 50.8% from the floor and 60% from beyond the arc.
Washburn is on a two-game losing streak since entering its road game stretch, having recently fallen in double overtime to Northwest Missouri State.
“For us, it’s about getting back to a little more offensive efficiency,” Washburn head coach Lora Westling said. “Making sure we’re doing what we need to do to get some wins going again and show we’re a team that can win on the road.”
“The goal is to win, but we’ve seen that we got complacent and comfortable with how we were winning,” Washburn junior guard Kellyn Hunter said. “Those two losses keep us humble, and now we’re even more focused on the task ahead.”
Emporia State is 7-1 at home this season and 1-4 on the road. Lady Hornets head coach MJ Baker said playing on their home court is like having a sixth man.
“We got embarrassed last time on their court, so knowing our job is to protect this court, we’re going to be at the good old Hornet Hive,” Baker said.
“The first game was not our best,” ESU senior guard Gracie Gilpin said. “Like coach has said, they really haven’t seen us.”
Tip-off for the women is set for 5:30 p.m.
