TOPEKA (KSNT) – If you checked the weather for this weekend, you may have seen it’s going to be cold and windy. Here are some tips on how to stay warm.
Wearing layers will be a necessity the weekend of Jan. 17-18. Your extremities being covered with wearing gloves, hats, or ear muffs is ideal, according to the American Red Cross. With the vast amount of wind, people who are driving should also be extra aware of their surroundings.
“First off, know your skill level and be very careful when the wind is blowing in Kansas like it does north to south and sometimes we do get it east to west in the winter time,” said Carol Arnold from the American Red Cross. “Just be prepared to have both hands on the wheel and be alert to what area you’re going into and who you’re passing. The other thing is to make sure that, you know, you keep your extremities warm, gloves, hats, earmuffs, whatever it takes to stay warm.”
