TOPEKA (KSNT) – Topeka firefighters saved three pets from a burning home on Tuesday.
City of Topeka spokeswoman Kimberly Qualls said in a press release the Topeka Fire Department responded to a reported house fire around 5:15 p.m. on Jan. 20 in the 800 block of Southeast Rice Road. Firefighters arriving at the address found a single-story home on fire with smoke and flames visible on its exterior.
Three people exited the home prior to the arrival of firefighters arriving at the scene. Fire crews searching the burning home found two dogs and one cat inside. Firefighters were able to rescue the animals and revive them.

Topeka Fire Department investigators determined the fire was caused by an accident and related to cooking activity in the kitchen area of the home. No working smoke detectors were found inside the home.
