TOPEKA (KSNT) – A major food production plant in Topeka is eyeing a potential expansion that could add significantly to its presence in the Capital City.
Shawnee County commissioners met on the morning of Thursday, Jan. 22 to discuss several topics, including an application from Reser’s Find Foods for a large expansion project. The food producer is looking to add 90,000 square-feet onto its salad plant located at 3728 SE Sixth St. in Topeka.

Reser’s Fine Foods has submitted an application for a 10-year, 100% tax exemption for its expansion plans, according to Shawnee County Commission agenda documents. Construction work is currently set to be finished in early 2026 with the exemption requested to take effect in tax year 2027.
Thirty new employees will be added to the plant’s staff over the course of three years as part of the expansion project. The expansion effort is intended to increase distribution space to support internal growth and improve efficiency to meet a rise in product demand.
“Today, we’re asking that this board take two actions,” said Ashley Biegert, Shawnee County assistant county counselor. “First, just to acknowledge receipt of the Administrative Review Committee’s report. And secondly, to set a public hearing for the matter.”
Shawnee County commissioners voted in favor of setting up a hearing for Feb. 12 this year to revisit the topic. You can watch the Jan. 22 Shawnee County Commission meeting by clicking here.
Reser’s Fine Foods announced it would be investing $34 million in expanding its operations in the Topeka area in September last year. The company said it would be creating 60 new jobs and generating an estimated $458 million in economic impact as a result of the investment.
