KANSAS CITY, Mo (KSNT) – Mark Turgeon has been named the new head coach of the Kansas City Roos men’s basketball team.
Turgeon, a Topeka, Kansas native and Hayden High School alum, brings decades of coaching experience.
Turgeon has had stops at Maryland, Texas A&M, Wichita State, and Jacksonville State. Throughout his career, he has amassed nearly 480 wins and 10 NCAA Tournament appearances, and he now brings that track record to the Roos as they prepare for the 2026-27 season.

“It is an honor to be returning home and to be trusted to build a winning tradition with Kansas City men’s basketball,” Turgeon said in a statement released by the school. “There is so much untapped potential and with the full strength of the Kansas City community behind us, we will be able to elevate this program to new heights.”
At Hayden High School, he helped lead the Wildcats to consecutive Class 4A state championships before going on to play point guard at the University of Kansas.
The Roos, who currently compete in the Summit League, have struggled in recent seasons. Turgeon is taking over for Marvin Menzies, who will finish out the current campaign but will not return next season.
