TOPEKA (KSNT) – Shawnee County Parks and Rec hosted a ‘community engagement’ at the Big Gage Shelter House to discuss its 10-year master plan.
The event was focused on getting feedback from the citizens of Topeka and Shawnee County, including reasons families might avoid parks and rec facilities, where they might allocate resources and rating the quality of programs and facilities.

“Our main goal is having a program that speaks to people, that they’re able to input, give us what they want,” Superintendent with Shawnee County Parks and Rec, Eric Van Becelaere said. “But we would like to see a variety of different things come out of the master plan, including how we spend the money, where we go in the parks and the things that bring value to our community.”
Shawnee County Parks and Rec encourages citizens who missed the event, but would still like to give their feedback, to visit their website.
