SHAWNEE COUNTY (KSNT) – State troopers said three people were injured as a result of a crash north of Topeka on Thursday, with two being taken to a local hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reports the crash occurred shortly after 1:40 p.m. on Feb. 5 near the intersection of Northwest 50th Street and Northwest Topeka Boulevard. Both KHP troopers and Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the area which remained closed to traffic until around 3:15 p.m. later that day.

State troopers said a 2018 Kia Soul driven by a 19-year-old Topeka woman was heading east on Northwest 50th Street while a second vehicle, a 2024 Ford F250 driven by a 55-year-old Silver Lake woman, was driving north on Northwest Topeka Boulevard. The 19-year-old failed to yield at a stop sign and hit the Ford on the driver’s side door.

The Kia came to a stop facing north on Topeka Boulevard while the Ford rolled and came to a stop on its driver’s side facing to the northwest. The KHP said the driver of the Ford and a passenger, a 62-year-old Silver Lake man, had serious injuries while the 19-year-old Topeka woman was listed as having minor injuries. All three were taken to a local hospital for treatment.
