TOPEKA (KSNT) – A large food production facility in Topeka is moving forward with plans for a big expansion project this year.
Shawnee County commissioners gave the green light for a resolution for Reser’s Fine Foods during a commission meeting on Feb. 12 regarding its request for a decade-long, 100% tax exemption on improvements only. This will help the food producer expand operations at its salad plant found at 3728 SE Sixth St. in Topeka.
When will the $50 million apartment complex be completed in downtown Topeka?
“This is specifically for warehousing,” said Jeff Adair, director of facilities at Reser’s Fine Foods in Topeka. “Doesn’t mean that it might not grow into production jobs, but at this time, it’s primarily for warehousing.”
Reser’s Fine Foods is adding 90,000 square feet as part of this expansion project and 30 new jobs over the course of three years. GO Topeka has also pledged $1 million in economic development funds to help the company in return for Reser’s investment of $34 million in the project. The entire project is forecasted to generate an estimated $458 million economic impact in Topeka.
“Reser’s Fine Foods is excited to continue growing our presence in Topeka, where we have over 1,500 employees and have been proud members of the business community for over 35 years.
This new distribution center expansion lays the groundwork for future growth, allowing us to create new jobs and continue to invest in the job training and retention of our employees.
Go Topeka has pledged $1 million in economic development funds in return for our $34 million investment in this project. We are also seeking limited property tax offsets for the new square footage, which will help make our long-term future economic investment in Shawnee County possible. Our property tax contributions for all existing facilities will remain the same.
Reser’s is dedicated to contributing to the communities in which we live and work. For more information about Reser’s Fine Foods, visit resers.com/careers.”
