TOPEKA (KSNT) – Some local businesses in the Capital City are offering deals just in time for Lent.
In Topeka, Hy-Vee and the Blind Tiger Brewery are offering special seafood deals to locals who participate in Lent. As landlocked Kansas doesn’t usually see a variety of fish and non-meat options, the businesses are catering to a community need.
“We started offering the lunch specials in ’07,” said Jay Ives, owner of Blind Tiger Brewery & Restaurant. “So, this is our 19th year offering Lent specials, but it’s kind of grown up. And so now it’s something, you know, it’s almost Lent is supposed to be a little bit of a sacrifice, and it doesn’t feel like a sacrifice when these are so good.”
“We’ve got all kinds of specials for Ash Wednesday,” said Ken Sanford with Hy-Vee. “We’ve got shrimp on sale. We’ve got salmon on sale. We’ve got shrimp boils are on sale for $20 apiece. And we’ve got fish and chips again for $6.”
