TOPEKA (KSNT) – A house fire in central Topeka was determined to have been an electrical fire.
The Topeka Fire Department responded to a house fire at around 5 p.m. on Thursday at 2017 SE Massachusetts Avenue in Central Highland Park and no occupants were inside the single-story house along with no injuries. The fire was contained with no further extension of damage.
Kimberly Qualls of Topeka said in a press release that the cause was determined to be an electrical fire by the Topeka Fire Investigation Unit. The unit also found that smoke detectors inside the residence were not functioning.
TFD responded with five engine companies, four truck companies, one shift commander and two battalion chiefs.

The TFD is reminding residents to ensure smoke alarms are properly maintained and installed as they are the first line of defense in a house fire.
