TOPEKA (KSNT) – A local organization is helping Topeka residents get their taxes filed for free this year at no extra cost.
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) is helping Topeka residents get their taxes done at zero cost in 2026 for those who schedule appointments. This year, there are some notable changes, such as no tax on overtime or tips and a $6,000 deduction for anyone over the age of 65.
“Taxes are required by the federal government, but we hate to see you pay to file,” said volunteer Connie Everett. “Sometimes you’re paying more than you’re actually getting back, or not getting a refund at all, and still paying a fee. So, we love saving people that money.”
