TOPEKA (KSNT) – A Saturday apartment fire sent two people to a local hospital in Topeka.
Captain Brandon Crowell with the Topeka Fire Department said in a press release that firefighters were called at 1:45 a.m. on Feb. 21 regarding a structure fire at 600 Southwest 14th Street. Fire crews arriving at the scene spotted heavy smoke coming from the third floor of the nine-story apartment complex.
Firefighters searched the apartment, going from door-to-door to find all occupants inside the structure. The TFD rescued one person during this search while instructing other residents in some unaffected apartment units to shelter in place.
