TOPEKA (KSNT) – Transportation officials have released the latest edition of the Official State Bicycle Map for Kansas this week to help guide cyclists on their next adventure.
Philip Harris with the Kansas Department of Transportation announced in a press release on Feb. 24 that people can now grab a copy of the 2026-2028 bicycle maps. This new editions offers cyclists their choice of a variety of resources to help them plan out their next short or long bike riding excursion.
“Rail-Trails and the U.S. Bicycle Route System maps are included in the publication and showcase historic and unique places to visit along these routes,” said KDOT’s Active Transportation Manager Jenny Kramer. “We want residents and visitors alike to experience a few of the many venues and sights Kansas offers by bike while participating in active lifestyles.”
Will Jackson County be the home to Kansas’ second nuclear power plant?
Harris said the maps are free with each copy featuring color-coded highways to help people distinguish traffic levels and varying route widths to show where shoulders are paved and wider than three feet. Cyclists who want to avoid highways can use county roads which are displayed using the same color coding for traffic ranges and denote whether they are paved or unpaved. Other features included in the new maps include:
- Rest areas and bike shops
- State parks and scenic byways
- Hospitals with 24-hour emergency care
- Past Biking Across Kansas routes
People can learn more about the maps and place an order for them by sending an email to KATE@ks.gov or by calling 785-296-5186. To request a copy online, click here.
