TOPEKA (KSNT) – Big Red One Day was established to show the local community leaders the military’s professionalism, discipline, innovation, readiness and skills as the first infantry division within the United States Army.
The military invite them in to show them a variety of events, such as training excellence, leadership development and equipment capability.
“One relationship, two credibility of the United States Army to show the taxpayer that this is what we’re doing with their money. But more importantly, relationships with community members so that they understand what the Army is doing here as far as training and getting ready to win America’s wars in case we’re called,” said Lieutenant Guster Cunningham, division public affairs officer.
“I think it’s important because the Army has put a new focus on innovation down at the tactical level and to be able to see soldiers deal with problems firsthand and say, I have a really good idea that I want to solve and see them take that idea from, you know, just a drawing on a napkin or on a notebook out in the field to a fully complete product that can affect maybe just one idea. Fort Riley, Kansas. Or it can go broader and impact the entire Department of War,” said Joseph Gianino, division innovation officer for first infantry division.
If you missed this year’s Big Red One Day, Day in the Life as a Soldier, you could always catch them next year.
