TOPEKA (KSNT) – High school students from Topeka and Lawrence got a closer look at careers in healthcare Wednesday during the Choose Your Path event hosted by Stormont Vail Health.
The event, held at the Pozez Education Center at Stormont Vail Health, gave students and parents the opportunity to explore a variety of healthcare professions such as nursing, medical imaging, laboratory science, physical therapy and other jobs.
Organizers said the goal is to spark interest early and show students there are more options in healthcare than they may realize.
“We always need health care workers,” said Morgan Ray, a talent acquisition partner and career counselor at Stormont Vail Health. “This is really starting the pipeline of the younger adult high school students to get kind of that career interest and then give them that opportunity to learn all the different options that we have within health care.”

For some students, the event made future careers feel more realistic.
Andres Penny, a junior at Topeka High School, said his interest in healthcare was inspired by his sister. He said speaking directly with professionals and participating in hands-on activities helped him better understand what working in the field could look like.
Another local high school student, Dayanara Correa, said learning more about physical therapy stood out, adding that seeing demonstrations and asking questions made it easier to picture a future in healthcare.
Organizers said they hope events like this will help build the next generation of healthcare workers in the community.
