OVERLAND PARK (KSNT) – The long-awaited state championship Saturday was one for the books.
Multiple area athletes took home state championships, while many area teams competed and placed in the top-3.
In Class 6A, eight athletes represented Washburn Rural in the championship matches. Three girls and a program-record five boys competed for the title. Two boys secured victories: Landen Kocher-Munoz earned his third state title, and Jadyn Baum won his first.
Manhattan saw five athletes compete for a Class 6A state title. Four were victorious, including senior Caeleb Hutchinson, who completed a historic four-peat, as well as Max Eben-Pryor, Alayna Slifer, and Sophia Hoeme, who won in their respective weight classes.
Representing Junction City in Class 6A, Elizabeth Edgerton-Diaz and Julianna Villanueva stood atop the first-place podium.
Washburn Rural and Manhattan girls finished third and fourth, respectively. For the boys, Manhattan placed second, and Washburn Rural took third. Full team finishes below.
