LAWRENCE, Kan. — A former University of Kansas athletic trainer had their license revoked by the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts for multiple acts of misconduct.
According to court docs, Jeremy A. Goates had his license revoked last week by the board after having accessed electronic medical records of more than 300 female patients without authorization.
More than 100 of the medical records included sensitive photos of the women. Goates has admitted to accessing files of patients at plastic surgery clinics to view pictures of women, including some who had undergone breast augmentation procedures
This happened on multiple dates from Sept. 27, 2021, through Feb. 21, 2023. Goates admitted to the following:
- That he electronically searched for patients seen at plastic surgery clinics
- That he viewed before and after images of patients who had undergone breast augmentation procedures
- That he had accessed such images for personal use
- That he had accessed patients’ medical records through the EMR system from home and also accessed patient medical records for employees, former employees and for patients flagged in the record system as “neighbors
Goates violated the Kansas Athletic Trainers Licensure Act and was terminated from his job on March 22, 2023.
He had been licensed to practice as an athletic trainer in the state of Kansas since Dec. 19, 2005.
If Goates tries to apply for reinstatement, these allegations will be considered.
