TOPEKA (KSNT) – Law enforcement officials have stripped a former officer with the Topeka Police Department of his license after he allegedly lied about a crash that involved his patrol vehicle and refused to participate in an investigation into the crash.
The Kansas Commission on Peace Officers’ Standards and Training announced on Feb. 22 that it has revoked the Kansas law enforcement officer certification of a former TPD officer. This comes after the officer was allegedly untruthful with the TPD during an internal investigation related to a crash that involved his patrol vehicle and the circumstances related to this incident.
The officer served with the TPD from February 2016 to January 2025, according to the KSCPOST. The officer reportedly resigned from his position following the internal investigation on Jan. 3, 2025.
The KSCPOST opened up its own investigation into the officer’s conduct and assigned an investigator to meet with the officer. However, despite multiple attempts to set up an interview with the officer, he did not respond to the investigator’s requests for communication.

The commission cited state law including KSA 77-537 and KSA 74-5616(b)(3) in the conclusion of its report on the officer’s license revocation. The commission stated that it can revoke the license of an officer who gives false information or who fails to cooperate in an investigation sponsored by the commission that set towards determining the officer’s continued suitability for law enforcement certification.
