TOPEKA (KSNT) – Officials have revoked the license of a former sheriff’s deputy in northeast Kansas after he allegedly injured a woman during a reported domestic disturbance incident in late 2024.
The Kansas Commission on Peace Officers’ Standards and Training announced on Feb. 21 that it has revoked the law enforcement certificate of a former Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office deputy who served with the agency from October to December in 2024. This comes after a reported domestic violence incident involving the deputy in December two years ago.
Officers with the Topeka Police Department were called regarding a domestic disturbance incident on Dec. 4, 2024, according to documents from the KSCPOST. The incident involved the sheriff’s deputy and another woman.
The KSCPOST said that while officers were responding to this incident, the sheriff’s deputy allegedly slapped a cup that the woman was drinking from. This resulted in an injury to her mouth.
Officials with the KSCPOST launched an investigation into the incident focused on examining the deputy’s conduct and determining his continued suitability to serve in law enforcement. The sheriff’s deputy allegedly admitted to slapping a soda from the woman’s hand as he was upset.
The KSCPOST cited KSA 74-5616(b)(5), KSA 74-5601(j) and KSA 77-537 in its revocation report. The commission made the decision to revoke the license of the sheriff’s deputy based on the findings of its investigators.
