MANHATTAN (KSNT) – Fake Patty’s Day is expected to bring large crowds back to Aggieville this weekend.
The unofficial celebration near Kansas State University began as a way for students to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day before spring break. Over the years, it has grown into one of the busiest weekends of the spring semester, filling Aggieville with thousands of visitors dressed in green.
The Riley County Police Department says the event typically brings an increase in calls for service. Officers will have an increased presence in and around Aggieville throughout the weekend.

“What we like to see most people do is just not overconsume alcohol to the point where they become a hazard to themselves and others and then generally become a situation that we have to intervene in,” said Luke Breualt, Riley County Lieutenant.
Business leaders say safety inside the district is also a priority. The Aggieville Business Association says establishments will be fully staffed and coordinating with law enforcement to help manage crowds.
“The safest place to be on an occasion like this is in an establishment instead of being in the neighborhoods,” said Dennis Cook, Director of Aggieville Business Association.
Police are encouraging anyone celebrating to plan ahead, arrange rides, stay with friends and make responsible decisions. Officials say their goal is for the weekend to be both busy and safe for everyone involved.
