TOPEKA (KSNT) – One person was killed after Topeka Fire Department and Police Department responded to a structure fire in downtown Topeka on March 4.
The fire was located at 715 southwest Western Avenue at a multi-family apartment complex and Evergy was present at the scene, according to a 27 News reporter on the scene. Kansas Gas and the Kansas State Fire Marshal’s office were also present. Four people were transported to a local hospital and one with life-threatening injuries. Officials responded to the fire at around 9 p.m.
Nine apartment units in the building are displaced from the fire.

TFD found that the fire was determined to be an accidental electrical fire.
