POTTAWATOMIE COUNTY (KSNT) – Residents across Pottawatomie County voted to approve two school bond measures that total $12 million on March 3 that would go towards security updates, maintenance projects and even a new building for classrooms across schools in the district.
Voters in USD 322 participated in a school bond election on Tuesday to confirm or deny two bond measures, with one bond worth $10 million going towards a new elementary school building and a second measure worth $2 million going towards maintenance projects. Some of the facility upgrades include ADA improvements, HVAC replacements and restroom renovations.
Vote totals for the first school bond measure show that 76.3% voted to approve the measure while 23.6% voted against it. The second bond measure, which can only pass if the first measure passes, passed with 74.93% in approval of the measure and 25.07% who voted against it.
$31.5 million bond vote overwhelmingly fails in Morris County
According to the school district, the bonds would be financed through a 20-year term. Residential property worth $100,000 can expect taxes to go up nearly $19 a month total for both bonds. The final vote will be canvassed on March 9.
