EMPORIA (KSNT) – In an announcement on Friday, the City of Emporia will host the official countdown clock for the world’s biggest soccer tournament.
The countdown clock for the 2026 FIFA World Cup will display the days, hours and minutes until kickoff starts for the tournament — bringing international soccer fans to Kansas. According to Visit Emporia Director Matthew Fowler, the World Cup clock is on display outside of the William Lindsay White Auditorium in downtown Emporia until March 26.

“Hosting the World Cup countdown clock is a great opportunity for Emporia to share in the excitement of one of the world’s largest sporting events” Fowler said. “The World Cup is one of the most watched events on the planet, and having the countdown clock here gives our community a chance to be part of that global story.”
Northeast Kansas, including Topeka, are expecting an increase in traffic and recently the Greater Topeka Partnership was in the process of planning attractions for tourists. Lawrence is already a basecamp for the games, hosting Team Algeria. Kansas City, Missouri will host six games for the tournament at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium with four group-stage games, one round of 32 game and one quarter-final game.
