TOPEKA (KSNT)- The Topeka Cat Cafe hosted a Japanese culture celebration at the Topeka Zoo to raise money for their organization.
Guests had the opportunity to watch traditional dancing, create their own calligraphy, do origami, and even enjoy curated sushi and hibachi.
Great Plains Kendo Dojo was also there, demonstrating traditional kendo, a modern Japanese martial art.
This is the second annual Japanese cultural celebration. The Topeka Cat Cafe says the event just continues to grow.
“This is a great way to just express a love for the Japanese culture. Along with supporting the cats at the Topeka Cat Café, I’m seeing a lot of familiar faces from last year, of course, and seeing a lot of familiar faces from our regulars,” said Topeka Cat Café employee, Lilly Smith. “But I’m seeing a lot of new ones that I hadn’t seen last year. The turnout was really incredible this year. We’re just really thankful that so many people chose to come out and spend this day with us.”
Attendants also participated in a silent auction- but the organization says you didn’t have to be present to donate and that you can do so online.
The Topeka Cat Cafe has facilitated over 700 adoptions since 2024. You can stop by the cafe to support their mission.
