An ordinance to rezone for multi-family housing 1.36 acres out 5.78 acres of land, parcel from ATA Development LLC, was approved on March 10 by city council — setting the stage for a plan of adding 18 duplexes along the west side of Southwest Urish Road.
The proposed project includes the construction of 18 two-bedroom, two-bathroom duplexes with single garages. The renter-occupied spaces would be $2,499 a month and is aimed to be market-rate age in place housing.
City council also approved a resolution that would now require the city to look into ATA Development’s application for a Reinvestment Housing Incentive District to raise project financing, which would later be reviewed by the Secretary of Commerce.

Previous Reporting
In a Topeka Planning Commission meeting in early February, ATA Development requested an approval to rezone 1.36 acres of the company’s 5.78 acres of parcel from commercial development to residential development at the intersection of SW Urish Road and SW 21st Street.
The company already has multiple acres for residential development including family duplexes, and the 1.36 acres would add additional residential zoning.
