TOPEKA (KSNT) – State leaders and safety advocates gathered at the Kansas Statehouse for Drive to Zero Day, an event focused on reducing traffic crashes and saving lives on Kansas roads.
Officials with the Kansas Department of Transportation joined lawmakers and community partners to discuss the initiative and ways to improve roadway safety across the state. The program uses a Safe System approach, which focuses on safer roads, safer vehicles and safer driving behavior.
Vanessa Spartan, chief of Transportation Safety with KDOT, said the goal of the initiative is to prevent the most severe crashes or, in the event of a crash, save a life. She also added that a lot of time and effort goes into finding ways to make roads as safe as possible so everyone can get home safely.
