TOPEKA (KSNT)- Public educators from across the state were in Topeka — advocating for public schools on Tuesday.
The KANSAS NEA hosted its second annual “Lucky to Have Kansas Public Schools Rally” at the Capitol on March 17. Educators, community members and students from across Kansas schools gathered today to have lunch with lawmakers and to discuss the importance of public education.
“We just want people to recognize teachers. We want to be seen, and we want to be heard. Oftentimes, we’re not at the table for important conversations that deal with the profession and with public schools,” said Director of Government Relations and Legislative Affairs Timothy Graham. “And by having legislators or having members come up and talk to legislators, we’re helping to build those bridges and get to the table more often.”
The goal of the event was to build relationships with state leaders to improve public education.

“There is no job better than being an education worker. We are blessed to work with Kansas students, and we’re lucky to be here. But we’re going to make sure we fight for our schools,” said Oletha NEA President, Angie Powers.
